St Kilda Home
A heritage residential home in St Kilda needed renovations to upgrade its current small kitchen and accommodate the client's present needs and their love for a north-facing kitchen and garden conservatory.
With tight planning overlay and site restrictions, a sensitive design was developed together with the owners. A beautiful glass conservatory with exposed steelwork in pale green gave a nod to the lush greenery characteristic of the streetscape in St Kilda and the landscape within the existing rear garden. With large sliding doors that can be opened fully to transform the conservatory to an airy verandah during summer days and closed to keep solar heat in during cold Melbourne winters. Louvre windows and retractable shades incorporated throughout allows for experimental living with the lush north garden throughout the year.
The kitchen has been carefully extended, considering overshadowing impacts and in line with town planning setback requirements. In line with the experimental nature of the house, the kitchen is adaptable, can be fully opened to maximize views, serve as the hub of an indoor/outdoor entertaining area and be integrated into the glass conservatory. The bathroom has also been extended and altered to create internal garden and water views from the bathroom while protecting the privacy of its occupants.
