Grampians Health

Grampians Health’s reception, staffroom and lounge needed an upgrade to better serve the community and support the people who use them each day. We spoke directly and extensively with staff and occupants about their comfort, daily routines and how the spaces needed to function. Their feedback shaped the design, including a dedicated delivery area, an accessible reception counter with sections at different heights, sit–stand workstations, staff pigeonholes and purpose-designed storage.

An airlock at the entrance prevents cold draughts from entering directly, while the angled reception desk helps guide public circulation through the space. The waiting area was reconfigured so visitors have a clear sightline to reception while seated. Cost and buildability were carefully considered, with the curved form created through a faceted acrylic design rather than more complex and costly curved glass.

Overhead timber beams were introduced beneath the existing skylight to provide a structure for future greenery. The palette of olive green and wattle yellow, together with timber features and brass detailing, was chosen to reflect the colours of the natural Grampians landscape and bring warmth to the interior.

This project holds particular significance - shaped by the warm, welcoming staff at Grampians Health and their careful attention to the needs of those they serve, and made memorable through collaboration with Rick, Rose and Karen.
