Sustainable Architects is a Central Victorian Architecture practice led by Registered Architect Rachel Low. Each project begins with a careful reading of the site — its landscape, climate, history and daily rhythms — to create homes that feel calm, comfortable and deeply connected to place.
 

Based in a mudbrick studio set within native and fruit gardens, the practice works towards creating calm, healthy homes shaped by Sustainability, Solar-Passive Design, low-impact materials and a practical understanding of regional living.
 

The practice has experience designing for rural, regional and environmentally sensitive sites, including bushfire-prone areas, environmental overlays, septic systems, and off-grid or partly serviced homes. The work is grounded in understanding the land, the climate, the approvals process and the construction systems needed to bring a project together.
 

Rachel brings a practical understanding of conventional building systems, high-performance energy-efficient design and construction detailing, alongside extensive experience in the design and construction of hempcrete buildings. Her work is also informed by a strong interest in recycled, natural and low-impact materials, including timber, brick, mud brick, rammed earth and strawbale.
 

The practice welcomes collaboration with skilled Builders, consultants, Owner-Builders and resourceful Homeowners who want to be actively involved in the making of their homes.
 

We are a registered architectural practice with the Architects Registration Board of Victoria and member of the Architeam Cooperative.
